About Ministry of Food:
During the 2nd world war, Bangladesh, the then East Bengal, an eastern province of undivided India, fell into great famine in 1943. To feed and ensure availbility of food for the people, Civil Supplies Department was commissioned by the Bengal provincial Govt. After the independence of india from the British rule in 1947, Civil Supplies Dept. Continued to Work under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, till 1971, in the then East Pakistan. Bangladesh got independence and emerged as a new born country in December 1971. Food Department has been continuing its activities on food management of the country under the Ministry of Food & Civil Supplies. Later, the ministry worked as Ministry of Food, Ministry of Food & Relief, Ministry of Food & Disaster Management, Food Division under the Ministry of Food & Disaster Management. Finally, by the order of Cabinet Division memo no. 04.425.022.02.01.002.2012-96 dated. 13 Sept 2012 merged as an independent Ministry of Food. However Vision, Mission, Allocation of Business and a brief of Operational Food management of the Core Department and Food security Institutional Settings are given belews :
